Turning 39

Image
As I enter my final year of my 30s, it feels like a good time to reflect a bit. I wrote a similar, yet incredibly long winded, post entitled  Turning 32  back when I turned...32. I don't think this will be nearly as wordy, but it's a stream of consciousness type post so we'll see. Unlike 32, I've started to feel my age. So if you were to ask me the question "Do you feel older?" today, the answer would certainly be yes. It's not a bad thing, it's not that I feel like my body is breaking down or that I see the world in some significantly different ways. My life has just transitioned so much since that last post, especially in the past 2 years or so.  Going back a few years, I'm so thankful for my weight loss journey and being able to mostly keep the weight off since. Had I not done it in the first place then I think mornings would be harder, but I still feel pretty good when I get up. I've been in maintenance mode since the end of COVID and have ...

Christmas Traditions

Image
Now that Thanksgiving is over, we can move on to Christmas. I'm one of those people who wholly believe that we should celebrate Thanksgiving as it's own holiday and that Christmas doesn't start at midnight on November 1st. Before this gets into an entire rant post about how Thanksgiving get ignored even though it is the best holiday, let's move on. You can one of the earliest post to this blog all about the greatness that is Thanksgiving here . Today we're talking about Christmas traditions.  Ever since James was born, we've been having Christmas at home in Delaware. We used to travel back to NY and while it was nice doing that, I hated travelling during that time with little kids. I wanted them to wake up on Christmas morning at home, not in a hotel room. Since we've made the switch, we have started some of our own traditions and plan to add a couple more this year. While it isn't my favorite holiday by any means, I'm a scrooge you know, some of my ...

My New Decade's Resolutions

Image
Every year people set New Year's resolutions in an effort to better themselves in some way. It might be to get healthier, more financially stable, a challenge to incorporate a new habit, or some other thing that they've struggle with. I'm one of those people and have written about my resolutions here on the blog over the past few years. My most recent post was about the the 3 things I want to accomplish in 2020. Yesterday, I stumbled across this tweet , which I assume was meant as a joke. It reads: "So what are everyone's new decade resolutions? Just remember these are ten times more binding than regular new years resolutions." It immediately got me to thinking about doing just that. I'd never considered doing it myself and frankly had never heard of it being a thing. A quick Google search revealed that they're rarely called "New Decade resolutions". Most of the stuff I could find was more about long term planning goals. The usual things...

Fireworks

Image
Every Fourth of July, we in America celebrate our independence with fireworks. Some states allow you buy your own and others force you to go see a professional show. Either way there are all sorts of booms and colorful explosions for a few weeks. We don't always go and see a show, but this year we saw the best one we've ever seen. We're currently in the middle of a bit of a road trip visiting family and friends. On Tuesday, we started that trip by trekking up to New Hampshire. I figured we'd want to bring our kids to go see some fireworks, but what I hadn't planned on was driving an additional two hours round-trip to Portsmouth to do so. I accepted the suggestion to drive further out to see a better show instead of waiting until the next day to see a lesser one close by. However, after 7 hours in the car the last thing I wanted to do was drive for another two hours. We arrived about an hour before it started and walked the couple blocks to find a place to w...

Three's Company

It's been a very busy month since my last entry into this blog. Christine and I had been spending most of our free time getting ready to welcome our third child into the world. Three weeks ago today, we did just that.
