Announcing The End of Monthly Wrap-Ups
The September 2026 Wrap-Up post marked three straight years of writing about what has gone on in my life each month and posting it all for the world to see. Today marks the end of the series, meaning I will not be posting one for October. I didn't set out with any end date in mind when I started and had initially hoped to just keep writing them indefinitely. However, over the last few months the obligation (to nobody but myself) of doing them began to weigh on me. Like many other things I set my mind to and then complete (or not), I eventually lost interest in pursuing it further. Wrap-Up posts will join the list along with things like board game design and New Year's resolutions. It doesn't mean I'll never do any of these activities again, but I'll be perfectly content if I don't. I think that's really a good barometer for me when it comes to hobbies, goals, etc.
As I've written about on numerous occasions (and on the About page), this blog has become my own version of social media, as I no longer share very much on the sites where I still have an active account. Over the past couple years, almost all of my posts on the three social media accounts I have/had were links to my blog posts. I stopped sharing them on X back in February of 2025 and deleted my Bluesky account a few months ago, so most of the traffic has been coming from Facebook. It made sense to share where the people who actually know me would see it (and hopefully read it), but there hasn't been much engagement from the posts so I began to ask myself the question: "Why continue writing them?" Just having a record to look back on to see what I was watching at the time or what I'd been snacking on didn't seem like enough, even though I'll enjoy the nostalgia when I inevitably go back and read those posts.
You may wonder why I decided to write an announcement post instead of just not saying anything at all and simply never writing another Wrap-Up post again. The main reason is I like closure to things, especially those I can control, and I assume others do too. As a reader, I'd much rather know what's going on than be left wondering if the posts will ever return. Aside from that, I've once again found myself wanting to scale back and simplify my life even more than ever before. Having an audience knowing everything I'm doing doesn't feel meaningful. While this blog has always been somewhat of a public diary, I want to go back to individual posts about topics that the Wrap-Up segments covered. I also want to get back to writing opinions on various topics and maybe do an occasional Top 10 list.
I want to thank all of you who have read any or all of the Wrap-Up series and hope you continue to come back for what's to come.
