Social Media Break

Image
I'm struggling right now. I'm searching for direction, trying figure out what I want to do in my life. I'm working on being a better person and want to get more fulfillment out of the work that I do. Instead of focusing and creating a plan, I spend way too much time on social media. It's easy to get lost in the lives of others, hilarious memes, constant "breaking news" updates, and the seemingly non-stop political coverage that is this time period's blood sport. So for at least the month of February, I'll be taking a break from Twitter and Facebook (they're the only platforms I use). I've already deleted the apps off of my phone in an effort to help break the chains, so to speak. The hope is that I better use the time that I used to spend just mindlessly scanning through those feeds. Other than using that time towards working out whatever it is that I'm going through right now, there are a bunch of other things that will easily fill

Weezer - The Teal Album

Image
After a rough morning, that was only pacified by having a slice of Dutch apple pie for breakfast, I logged onto Twitter to see Weezer was trending. Overnight they dropped a 10 song album of covers, headlined by their amazing cover of "Africa" by Toto. Some of the other songs include "No Scrubs", "Take On Me", "Billie Jean", and "Stand By Me". At the time of this writing, I've already listened through the entire thing 3 times (including additional listens of my favorites). It's really that good in my opinion. If you're a Weezer fan or just love covers of old songs, check out the album for free on a variety of platforms:  Click here to listen! Weezer is one of those bands that I can start listening to only to quickly fall down a rabbit hole as I go through all of their work (and there's a lot!). They've produced a lot of memorable songs that remind me of different moments in my life. I forget just how much I lov

2018 Unplayed Games Recap

Image
For the past four years, I've been working on playing all of the games in my collection. The challenge has always been the number of unplayed games to play was the same as the last two digits of the year. So  in 2015  it was 15,  in 2016  it was 16, and  last year  it was 17. Well this year I didn't start the year with enough games to do that! (I did however end up playing 26 previously unplayed games.) Instead I found a new challenge: Get Your Magic Number to 0 . Your magic number is the number of unplayed games. Through plays, trades, or donations, you have to get to 0. I also made that goal one of my New Year's Resolutions. Between the two, it kept me motivated and I was able to get there in November. Today I'm going to do a quick recap of all of the games I had to play at the beginning of the year and those that I added throughout. There were three games that I traded without playing them so they weren't be featured in the list below. Those games were Mott

Plans for 2019

Be Better I've been thinking a lot about what I want to accomplish in 2019. I've decided to focus on being happier, calmer, and just an overall better person. This year wasn't great. It certainly had a lot of great moments, but I know that I wasn't fun to be around. I was generally miserable and lashed out at people in my life, specifically Christine and the kids. If you read this blog regularly or follow me on social media, you saw how I tried to turn things around starting in November with the  30 Day Bring Gratitude Challenge . I found that exercise to be helpful and it's started to change the way I think about things.  Meditation In December, I focused on meditation and while I was still not being the best me, I think it's helping some. The hope is that the longer I do it, and the more productive my sessions get, that it make me a tad bit happier, calmer, and all of that. It's definitely not a fix all, but any good that it does for me is somet
